To fully understand what Gyodokan Kaizen Kempo is it may help to translate the words:

Gyodokan- House of the true way. The "house" here is the human body. Every person is different. We are all built different, have different tastes, different strengths, weaknesses, etc. So no one way of doing anything will fit everyone. Through training in Gyodokan the student learns to find that which works for them by being exposed to several different martial arts all in one package.

Kaizen- Always improving. The real purpose of martial arts training is to consistently strive to improve yourself, while not comparing yourself to others. Your toughest competitor will always be yourself, and we want our students to be proud of who they see in the mirror.  At Howard Kempo Karate we empower our students with the perserverance and confidence they need to achieve their goals in martial arts and in life.

Kempo- Fist Method. Kempo is what karate was call before it was called karate. When a school uses the word 'kempo' to describe their art, they are referring to the original arts that came from China to Okinawa to become what is called 'karate' today, and although we do attend tournaments, Kempo Karate is not a sport karate. Kempo was created for the purpose of self-protection first, and fitness second.

Gyodokan Kaizen Kempo was founded in 1998 by Grandmaster Dan Howard. Gyodokan Kaizen Kempo teaches the rapid fire hand techniques of Okinawan Kempo Karate, the powerful kicking of the Korean art of Taekwondo, the joint-locking, throwing, and grappling techniques of Japanese Jujutsu, and the weapons training of Filipino Escrima. Gyodokan Kaizen Kempo is a complete martial art that covers every range of self-defense. Gyodokan Kaizen Kempo is recognized nationally by the United Bujutsu Federation
